Since Carsten Herbert began sharing his expert knowledge via the YouTube channel ENERGIESPARKOMMISSAR in 2020, he has become probably Germany’s best-known energy consultant. His ability to explain complex issues to even a lay audience in a simple, understandable, well-founded and above all personable way has led to his videos being clicked 7.4 million times and watched for a total of 1.1 million hours (as of 3/24).

This circumstance sparked the interest of Herder Verlag in 2022. His first book, “Everything You Need to Know About Saving Energy,” made it straight onto the Spiegel bestseller list. Since then, Herbert has been a valued interview partner on radio and television. His second book, “Everything You Need to Know About Heat Pumps,” will be published in April 2024.

His career as an energy efficiency expert began at the Institute for Housing and Environment (IWU) in Darmstadt. There, from 2001 to 2004, he researched the fundamentals of energy balancing for buildings and gained his first experience in public relations work on energy-saving topics.

In 2004, Herbert founded the engineering office ENERGIE & HAUS in Darmstadt. Since then, he has made it his mission to constantly reinvent energy consulting. Through his work with his team of specialists in building physics and systems engineering, Carsten Herbert always stays at the cutting edge of technical and communicative possibilities.

As early as the 2000s, his innovative engineering office created the first online energy-saving calculator for residential buildings, established a knowledge portal on the previously little-known topic of thermal bridges, and was involved in designing practical guidelines on airtightness.

Herbert was able to contribute his extensive practical experience, among other things, in projects for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, when he developed the foundations for the individual renovation roadmap (iSFP) on behalf of the German Energy Agency (dena).

His broad specialist knowledge is rounded off by his outstanding communication skills. In his parents’ family business, Herbert learned early on how to deal with people from all walks of life. Precisely adapting to the level of his audience is one of the most important qualities in shaping Herbert’s speeches. His wealth of experience from countless energy consultations is a source of numerous entertaining and no less instructive anecdotes.
